AI Horde is a free, community-powered service that enables anyone to generate images and text using artificial intelligence without requiring any personal hardware, coding knowledge, or software setup. The platform operates on a distributed network of volunteers who share their idle GPU and CPU computing power. These volunteers run “workers” – lightweight software programs that connect to the central Horde server and process generation requests sent by users. In return for contributing compute resources, workers earn “kudos,” a virtual currency that grants them priority access to the generation queue. This model makes AI generation accessible to individuals who cannot afford expensive graphics cards or cloud subscriptions, while also rewarding those who contribute spare capacity. Users can access AI Horde through a variety of front-end interfaces. The most straightforward way is to use a dedicated website such as ArtBot, which provides a graphical user interface for prompting image and text generation. Alternatively, users can integrate AI Horde into their own applications or chat bots via its open REST API. The API supports both synchronous and asynchronous request modes, with full documentation available for developers. No authentication is required for low-priority usage, but setting up a free API key unlocks higher priority and anonymous usage. The platform supports multiple open-source image generation models, including Stable Diffusion variants, and text generation models such as LLama, Mistral, and others, all running on contributors' hardware.
