Apache NetBeans is a free and open-source integrated development environment for Java, JavaScript, PHP, HTML5, C/C++, and other programming languages. Originally developed by Roman Stanek at Sun Microsystems in 1996 as Xelfi (the first Java IDE), NetBeans was acquired by Oracle through the Sun acquisition and later contributed to the Apache Software Foundation in 2016, becoming an Apache top-level project in 2019.
