Apache Superset Data Visualization

Apache Superset is an open-source data exploration and visualization platform that enables analysts to explore datasets, build interactive dashboards, and share insights through a web-based interface without requiring SQL expertise for common operations. The platform connects to SQL databases and data warehouses including PostgreSQL, MySQL, BigQuery, Snowflake, ClickHouse, Presto, Druid, and over thirty other SQL-speaking data sources, running queries directly against the source rather than ingesting data into a separate storage layer. The SQL Lab component provides a full-featured query editor with syntax highlighting, autocomplete, query history, result export, and the ability to explore query results as visualizations with a single click. The visualization catalog includes time series line charts, bar charts, scatter plots, heatmap calendars, geographic maps with deck.gl rendering, pivot tables, sankey diagrams, box plots, and Rose charts, each configurable through a form-based interface with drag-and-drop metric and dimension assignment. Dashboards compose multiple visualizations onto a grid-based canvas with filter controls, markdown text blocks, tabs, and row-level security filters that restrict data visibility based on the viewing user role and attributes. The semantic model layer defines calculated metrics and certified datasets that promote consistency across dashboards by centralizing business logic definitions. Role-based access control governs who can view, edit, and publish dashboards, with integration to authentication providers including LDAP, OAuth, SAML, and OpenID Connect through Flask AppBuilder. As a top-level Apache Software Foundation project, it has been adopted by organizations including Airbnb, Tesla, Lyft, and Neutrino, with over sixty-five thousand GitHub stars.
