About this website

Ardour is a free and open-source digital audio workstation (DAW) for recording, editing, and mixing multi-track audio and MIDI, designed for professional music production, sound design, and post-production. Developed by Paul Davis (also creator of JACK Audio Connection Kit) since 2005, Ardour provides professional-grade audio production tools comparable to Pro Tools and Logic Pro. Key features include: multi-track recording (unlimited audio and MIDI tracks with non-destructive recording, punch in/out, and layered takes for comping), audio editing (sample-accurate editing with cut, copy, paste, fade, crossfade, time-stretch, pitch-shift, and ripple edit operations), MIDI sequencing (MIDI track editing with piano roll, drum view, velocity editing, controller automation, and MIDI mapping for external hardware), mixing console (professional mixing console with channel strips, EQ, dynamics, sends, aux buses, and master section with full automation), plugin support (LADSPA, LV2, and VST audio plugins with native Linux VST, Windows VST via Wine, and AudioUnit on macOS), signal routing (flexible internal routing matrix connecting any track or bus to any other), JACK integration (full JACK Audio Connection Kit integration for inter-application audio routing on Linux), video timeline (import video and sync audio to video frames for film post-production), tempo and meter maps (flexible tempo and meter changes with BPM ramps and irregular time signatures), control surfaces (support for Mackie Control, Generic MIDI, and OSC-based control surfaces), and cross-platform (Linux, macOS, and Windows).
