arXiv

arXiv is a free, open-access repository of electronic preprints — known as e-prints — in物理学, mathematics, computer science, quantitative biology, quantitative finance, statistics, electrical engineering, economics, and related disciplines. Founded in 1991 by physicist Paul Ginsparg at Los Alamos National Laboratory, it has become the de facto standard for sharing research findings in these fields before formal peer review. Researchers upload their completed manuscripts to arXiv, making them immediately available to the global scientific community. This practice has fundamentally changed how science is communicated, particularly in fast-moving fields like machine learning and artificial intelligence, where waiting months for traditional publication could mean missing out on being the first to report a discovery. arXiv now hosts over 2 million e-prints and receives hundreds of new submissions daily. While the papers on arXiv have not undergone formal peer review, many of them eventually appear in traditional journals after going through that process.
