About this website
The Chamber of Mines of Namibia is the industry association representing mining companies operating in Namibia, established in 1969 and headquartered in Windhoek. Mining is the largest contributor to the Namibian economy, generating approximately fifty percent of foreign exchange earnings and around twelve percent of GDP. Namibia is a major producer of diamonds through Namdeb Diamond Corporation, a joint venture between the Namibian government and De Beers, uranium through the Husab and Rössing uranium mines operated by China National Nuclear Corporation and Swakop Uranium, and zinc through the Skorpion Zinc mine and refinery. The Chamber represents over thirty member companies engaged in exploration, mining and mineral processing, and advocates on mining sector policy including mining licensing, fiscal regimes for mineral extraction, environmental compliance and mine rehabilitation, electricity supply for energy-intensive mining and smelting operations, and skills development for the mining workforce.
