Eclipse IDE is a free and open-source integrated development environment managed by the Eclipse Foundation, headquartered in Ottawa, Canada. Originating from an IBM project code-named Eclipse in November 2001, it was open-sourced with a $40 million IBM investment. Release names follow a yearly cadence (2023-09, 2023-12, 2024-03, etc.). Key features: over 1,500 plugins via the Eclipse Marketplace, extending the IDE with language support, frameworks, and tools.
