About this website
Fluent Bit is an open-source log processor and forwarder designed for high-performance, low-resource data collection in cloud-native and containerized environments. Created by Eduardo Silva in 2015 and maintained by Fluent Inc (formerly Treasure Data), Fluent Bit is a CNCF graduated project and the de facto standard for Kubernetes logging. Key features: extremely lightweight with a memory footprint of under 1MB and minimal CPU usage, making it suitable for edge devices, IoT, and resource-constrained environments. High performance processing over 100,000 records per second per core with a pipeline architecture of input, parser, filter, and output stages. Over 80 input plugins for collecting logs from files, systemd journal, Docker, Kubernetes, Tail, TCP, UDP, HTTP, MQTT, StatsD, and Windows Event Log. Over 80 output plugins for sending data to Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Kafka, Fluentd, S3, Splunk, Datadog, New Relic, CloudWatch, Google Cloud Logging, Azure Log Analytics, PostgreSQL, HTTP endpoints, and more. Parser plugins for structured data extraction including JSON, Regex (logfmt), LTSV, and custom patterns. Filter plugins for modifying records including grep, modify, record_modifier, Lua scripting, Kubernetes metadata enrichment, and AWS metadata enrichment. Stream processing engine for in-flight data transformation, aggregation, and routing. Metrics and tracing support with OpenTelemetry compatibility. Multi-architecture support including x86, x86_64, ARM, ARM64, and WASM. Kubernetes-native deployment via DaemonSet with automatic container log discovery and metadata enrichment. YAML and JSON configuration. TLS encryption and authentication for secure data transport. Open source under Apache 2.0.
