Iconify

Iconify is an open-source icon framework that provides a unified approach to using icons from over 200,000 open source vector icons across more than 150 icon sets through a single consistent API. Created by Vjacheslav Trushkin, the framework eliminates the problem of being locked into a single icon library by allowing developers to mix and match icons from different sources including Material Symbols, Font Awesome, Tabler Icons, Phosphor, Lucide, Remix Icon, Carbon, Fluent UI, Ionicons, Bootstrap Icons, Heroicons, and dozens of community-maintained sets. The architecture consists of three main components. The Iconify icon sets collection serves as a centralized registry where icon sets are automatically converted and normalized to a consistent format with unified naming conventions. The Iconify API provides on-demand icon delivery via JSON endpoints, allowing frameworks to fetch only the specific icons needed rather than bundling entire icon fonts or sprite sheets. The Iconify icon components for React, Vue, Svelte, Solid, Angular, and plain JavaScript handle rendering through SVG, with built-in optimization for color modes, dimensions, and transformations. The offline mode enables bundling selected icons at build time for fully self-contained applications without runtime API dependencies. Advanced features include icon flipping, rotation, custom color palettes, monochrome to color preservation, and seamless integration with popular component libraries including Tailwind CSS, UnoCSS, and Radix UI.
