Kali Linux is a free and open-source Debian-based Linux distribution designed for digital forensics, penetration testing, and cybersecurity research. Developed and maintained by Offensive Security (OffSec), a cybersecurity training and certification company founded by Mati Aharoni and Devon Kearns in 2006, Kali Linux is the successor to BackTrack Linux. Offensive Security is headquartered in New York City and is best known for the OSCP (Offensive Security Certified Professional) certification.
