Kali Linux is a free and open-source Debian-based Linux distribution designed for digital forensics, penetration testing, and cybersecurity research. Developed and maintained by Offensive Security (OffSec), a cybersecurity training and certification company founded by Mati Aharoni and Devon Kearns in 2006, Kali Linux is the successor to BackTrack Linux. Offensive Security is headquartered in New York City and is best known for the OSCP (Offensive Security Certified Professional) certification. Key features: pre-installed tools: over 600 pre-configured penetration testing and security auditing tools, including Nmap (network scanner), Wireshark (packet analyzer), Metasploit Framework (exploitation framework), Burp Suite (web application security scanner), Aircrack-ng (wireless network security tool), John the Ripper (password cracker), Hashcat (advanced password recovery), sqlmap (SQL injection tool), Nikto (web server scanner), and many more.
