About this website

KeePassXC is a community-driven, cross-platform port of the KeePass password manager, developed by the KeePassXC Team (led by Jonathan White and a community of contributors). It is a modern, open-source password manager that stores credentials securely in an encrypted database, allowing users to generate, store, and autofill strong, unique passwords for all their online accounts without needing to remember them. KeePassXC originated as a fork of KeePassX (which itself was a port of the original Windows-only KeePass to Linux and macOS), with the goal of providing a more actively maintained, feature-rich, and cross-platform alternative. The database uses AES-256 (or ChaCha20 or Twofish) encryption with Argon2 KDF for key derivation, ensuring that even if the database file is stolen, the passwords remain protected. Key features include: a built-in password generator with configurable length, character sets, and entropy estimation, auto-type functionality (automatically typing usernames and passwords into application and browser windows using customizable sequence templates and window associations), browser integration via the KeePassXC-Browser extension (supporting Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Brave for autofilling credentials on websites), SSH agent integration (using database entries as SSH key sources), password strength analysis and auditing (identifying weak, duplicate, or expired passwords), support for custom icons and entry attachments, TOTP generation (built-in authenticator for time-based one-time passwords), YubiKey and OnlyKey challenge-response authentication (adding hardware security key as an additional decryption factor), database group and entry organization with custom attributes, KeeShare (sharing subsets of the database with other users via signed share files), CSV and XML import and export, and support for the KeePass 2.x database format (.kdbx). As of 2026, KeePassXC has over 21,000 stars.
