KrakenD is a high-performance, stateless API gateway that unifies API aggregation, transformation, security, and AI-LLM orchestration in a single binary, capable of processing 80,000-plus requests per second on commodity hardware with true linear scalability. An independent IEEE ISCC performance benchmark ranked it as the fastest API gateway in its class. The platform aggregates multiple backend services including REST, gRPC, GraphQL, SOAP, RabbitMQ, AWS Lambda, Amazon SNS and SQS, and Kafka into single client-facing endpoints, eliminating the need for BFF boilerplate. The AI Gateway layer provides unified interfaces to OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, and open-source models with built-in token-based cost control, content filtering, and semantic caching. Security features include JWT, OAuth2, OpenID Connect, mutual TLS, API key validation, and rate limiting at the consumer, endpoint, and path level. The open-source Community Edition and the Enterprise edition share the same Go-based core runtime, with Enterprise adding distributed tracing, circuit breakers, SOA registry, and SOC 2 Type II compliance. Customers include IBM, Postman, Hepsiburada running 800-plus containers across 500 microservices, lastminute.com, Paylocity, Culture Amp, AMC Networks, Hewlett Packard, Oracle, and Universal. The underlying Lura project is a Linux Foundation initiative. GitOps-driven configuration management and a single-binary deployment model enable zero-downtime rollouts.
