The core product, LangSmith, serves as an agent engineering platform that enables teams to observe, evaluate, and deploy agents at scale. It provides real-time observability into agent behavior, capturing traces of every step an agent takes—including LLM calls, tool usage, and internal reasoning—so developers can pinpoint failure modes, latency bottlenecks, and unexpected outputs. This trace-based observability is framework-agnostic, meaning it works with any agent stack built using Python, TypeScript, Go, or Java SDKs, as well as third-party frameworks like AutoGPT or CrewAI. LangSmith includes a powerful evaluation module that allows users to define custom metrics, run regression tests on agent versions, and compare performance across different prompts, models, or configurations. Developers can set up automated evaluation pipelines that run against production data or synthetic test sets, catching regressions before deployment. The evaluation system supports both quantitative metrics (e.g., accuracy, latency, cost) and qualitative human feedback, enabling iterative improvement. For deployment, LangSmith offers a managed service that handles scaling, routing, and reliability. Agents can be deployed as APIs with automatic load balancing, retries, and fallback logic.
