About this website
LibreCAD is a free open-source 2D CAD (Computer-Aided Design) application for creating technical drawings, engineering plans, and architectural layouts. Originally forked from QCad Community Edition in 2010, LibreCAD is developed and maintained by a community of volunteers and provides a lightweight alternative to commercial 2D CAD software. Key features: comprehensive 2D drawing tools including lines, circles, arcs, ellipses, polylines, splines, points, text, and dimensions for creating precise technical drawings. Layer management with unlimited layers, per-layer visibility, locking, color, line weight, and line type for organizing drawing elements. Snapping system with endpoint, midpoint, center, intersection, grid, and free snapping for precise cursor positioning. Block (symbol) library for creating and reusing commonly used drawing components and symbols. Dimensioning tools including linear, aligned, angular, radial, and diameter dimensions with customizable styles and tolerances. Hatch patterns for filling enclosed areas with patterns (solid, lines, ANSI patterns, custom). Text annotations with TrueType font support, rotation, and alignment. PDF, SVG, DXF, and DWG (via Teigha File Converter or LibreDWG) import and export for interoperability with other CAD software. DXF as the native file format ensuring compatibility with AutoCAD and other CAD applications. Print and plot support with scale control, paper sizes, and multi-page layouts. Command-line interface for keyboard-driven drawing and automation. Undo and redo with unlimited history. Isometric grid for technical illustration. Plugin architecture for extending functionality. Cross-platform on Windows, macOS, and Linux with portable builds available. Multi-language interface with translations for over 30 languages. Used by engineers, architects, makers, and hobbyists for 2D drafting and technical documentation. Open source under GPLv2.
