Litmaps is a specialized web application designed to assist researchers, academics, and students in conducting literature reviews and navigating the vast landscape of scientific publications. Its core function is to transform the often tedious process of discovering relevant papers into an interactive, visual experience. Instead of relying solely on keyword searches in traditional databases, Litmaps creates dynamic citation maps that reveal the relationships between papers—showing which articles cite others, how research clusters form, and how ideas evolve over time. Users can begin their exploration by entering search terms, such as keywords, titles, author names, or digital object identifiers (DOIs). The platform then generates a visual representation of the search results, placing each paper as a node on a map.
