MindDory

MindDory is a mobile application designed to help language learners build and retain vocabulary through a combination of spaced repetition, artificial intelligence, and visual mapping. The app focuses on moving words from short-term to long-term memory by using an SM-2 scheduling algorithm that automatically adjusts review intervals based on each user’s performance. When a learner correctly recalls a word multiple times, the system “graduates” it, reducing future review frequency. Conversely, words that are frequently forgotten are shown more often until they stick. One of MindDory’s distinguishing features is its AI-generated stories. The app can create short narratives using only the words a user has already learned, providing context that makes new vocabulary meaningful and easier to remember. For example, if a user knows “run,” “tree,” “sky,” “big,” and “go,” the AI might generate a sentence like “The sky turned dark and the wind grew wild across the fields,” integrating those familiar terms into a coherent scene. This contextual learning helps users understand how words are used in real sentences rather than in isolation. MindDory also offers visual word mapping. Every word a user learns is displayed on an interactive “word map,” showing relationships and categories. This visual representation allows learners to see their vocabulary growth at a glance and to explore connections between words—for instance, grouping related terms like “storm,” “rain,” and “wind” together.
