About this website
The National Association of Chain Drug Stores, abbreviated NACDS, is the trade association representing the chain community pharmacy industry in the United States, founded in 1938 and headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. The organization represents over forty thousand chain community pharmacies and supermarket and mass merchandise pharmacies with pharmacy departments, including CVS Health, Walgreens, Walmart Pharmacy, Rite Aid, Kroger, and Target. Member pharmacies collectively fill approximately eighty percent of the over four billion retail prescriptions dispensed annually in the United States and serve over one hundred million Americans every day through their retail outlets and digital health platforms. NACDS advocates on healthcare policy issues including pharmacy reimbursement under Medicare Part D prescription drug plans and Medicaid managed care, pharmacy benefit manager transparency and pricing practices, scope of practice expansions for pharmacist-provided clinical services such as immunizations and point-of-care testing, and drug supply chain security and pharmaceutical anti-counterfeiting requirements under the Drug Supply Chain Security Act. The association's annual meeting and NACDS Total Store Expo are the pharmacy retail industry's most important business events.
