About this website
Nhost is a backend platform that provides a PostgreSQL database, GraphQL API, authentication, file storage, serverless functions, and AI tooling for web and mobile applications, managed through a cloud dashboard or run locally through a CLI tool. The platform auto-generates a real-time GraphQL API from the PostgreSQL schema using Hasura, exposing every table as a queryable type with filtering, sorting, pagination, and subscription support out of the box, without requiring developers to write resolvers or define GraphQL schemas manually. The database supports full-text search, geospatial queries, row-level security policies, and automatic migrations tracked through the Git integration that deploys schema changes on push. Authentication handles email and password, magic links, social login through Google, GitHub, Apple, Facebook, and LinkedIn, multi-factor authentication, and JWT-based session management with role-based permissions enforced at the database level. Storage accepts file uploads with virus scanning, image transformation through a built-in CDN, and signed URLs for private access. Serverless functions execute JavaScript and TypeScript code triggered by HTTP requests, database events, or cron schedules, deployed automatically through Git push with preview environments for each branch. An AI toolkit provides auto-embedding generation for vector search, an assistant API for building chat interfaces, and a file store for managing documents consumed by language models. The platform runs locally with one command using Docker, matching the cloud environment exactly so developers can test the full stack before deploying. SDKs are available for JavaScript, React, Vue, Next.js, SvelteKit, React Native, and Dart.
