NotePerformer is a software application designed to enhance the playback quality of music notation programs, specifically Sibelius, Dorico, and Finale. It replaces the default synthetic sound of these scorewriters with a built-in orchestral sound library and an intelligent performance engine that reads musical notation and translates it into natural, expressive audio in real time. The software does not require additional sample libraries or external synthesizers; it operates as a self-contained system that analyzes every note, articulation, dynamics, tempo, and phrasing mark found in the score, then generates a performance that mimics how a live musician would interpret the passage. The core functionality of NotePerformer revolves around its proprietary "note performance modeling" technology. Rather than simply playing back static samples at a fixed pitch and velocity, the engine evaluates the musical context: it detects legato vs. staccato, crescendos and diminuendos, trills, glissandi, and other ornaments, and adjusts the timing, attack, sustain, and release of each note accordingly. It also handles complex elements such as rubato, accelerando, and ritardando by altering the playback speed smoothly across multiple bars. The result is a performance that sounds musical, with phrasing that follows the contour of the melody and harmonic rhythm, avoiding the robotic, metronome-like quality typical of basic MIDI playback.
