OBS Studio Streaming Software

OBS Studio is a free and open-source software for video recording and live streaming, distributed under the GNU General Public License and available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The current version 32.1.2 supports 14 interface languages and has become the de facto standard for content creation on platforms including YouTube, Twitch, Facebook Gaming, Kick, and Trovo, with over 100 million downloads since its initial release in 2012 by developer Hugh Bailey. The software provides high-performance real-time video and audio capturing and mixing through a modular source system that supports screen capture via DXGI Desktop Duplication on Windows, AVFoundation on macOS, and PipeWire on Linux, window capture, game capture with hook injection for direct rendering pipeline access, browser sources using CEF for overlays and alerts, image and slideshow sources, text sources with GDI Plus and FreeType rendering, media source for video and audio file playback, and color source for solid backgrounds. Scene management allows unlimited scenes with transitions including cut, fade, swipe, slide, stinger transitions with video files, and scripting-based transitions through Lua and Python. Advanced audio mixing provides multi-track audio monitoring with per-source volume, sync offset, audio ducking, noise suppression via RNNoise, noise gate, VST plugin support on Windows and macOS, and per-channel compression and EQ. The output system supports x264, NVENC for NVIDIA GPUs, AMF for AMD GPUs, QSV for Intel QuickSync, VideoToolbox for Apple Silicon, and hardware-accelerated encoding in HEVC and AV1 formats with configurable rate control and keyframe intervals. Streaming protocols include RTMP, RTMPS, SRT, and RIST, with multi-platform simultaneous streaming through the dock-based interface.
