About this website

Ona, formerly known as Gitpod, is a platform for running background AI software engineering agents in the cloud, with orchestration and governance enforced at the kernel level. Founded by Johannes Landgraf, the platform enables development teams to deploy teams of AI engineers that execute tasks autonomously, producing pull requests as output. Background agents accept task descriptions and deliver complete code changes, allowing developers to maintain momentum from any device while agents work in parallel. The automations system enables agent fleets at scale, with repeatable workflows triggered by pull requests, scheduled events, or webhook integrations. Pre-built templates include fixing bugs from Linear issues, verifying merged changes, summarizing CI failures, triaging Sentry errors, patching vulnerable dependencies, drafting release notes, picking up backlog work, and migrating deprecated APIs. Runtime security is enforced at the kernel level with fine-grained policy controls that govern what each agent can access and execute. The entire platform runs inside the customer VPC with complete network control, ensuring source code and secrets never leave company-owned infrastructure. SOC 2 and GDPR compliant, with enterprise-grade security controls suitable for Fortune 500 organizations. Customers report that 90 to 95 percent of migration work is completed by automations, 83 percent of pull requests are co-authored by agents, and 400 plus Python repositories were modernized in six months. Customers include BNY, GSR, Vanta, Pearson, EquipmentShare, Hargreaves Lansdown, Stripe, Uber, Cloudflare, and Genentech. The platform announced it is joining OpenAI.
