Open Knowledge Maps is a free, AI-powered search engine that revolutionizes how researchers, students, and curious minds discover scientific literature. Unlike traditional search engines that return a simple list of links, Open Knowledge Maps creates an interactive visual map of a research topic, offering an immediate overview of the landscape. The tool aggregates content from two major databases: PubMed (life sciences) and BASE (all disciplines), covering millions of scholarly publications, preprints, and other research outputs. When a user enters a query (for example, “digital education” or “climate change AND impact”), the system retrieves relevant documents and then groups them into clusters of related concepts based on the AI analysis of abstracts and metadata. Each cluster is labeled with key terms or phrases, allowing users to see the main themes, sub-themes, and connections within a field at a glance. The resulting visual map is interactive: users can click on clusters to expand them, inspect individual papers, view citations, and drill down into specific areas of interest.
