OpenCode is an open source AI coding agent designed to assist developers in writing code directly from their terminal, integrated development environment (IDE), or desktop application. It operates as a local or cloud-connected agent that interprets natural language instructions and generates, modifies, or debugs code across multiple programming languages. Users can start using OpenCode immediately with free models included by default, or they can choose to connect any external model provider such as Anthropic’s Claude, OpenAI’s GPT, Google’s Gemini, and others. This flexibility allows developers to select the model that best fits their specific task, budget, or performance requirements. The agent supports multiple sessions running concurrently on the same project, enabling parallel workflows such as refactoring one module while generating tests for another. Each session can be shared via a unique link, making it easy to collaborate with teammates or seek assistance in debugging by providing direct access to the exact context of the interaction. OpenCode automatically loads the appropriate Language Server Protocol (LSP) for the current project, ensuring that the AI model has real-time awareness of syntax, types, definitions, and references within the codebase.
