About this website

OpenShot Video Editor is a free and open-source non-linear video editor for Linux, Windows, and macOS. Created in 2008 by Jonathan Thomas (who remains the lead developer and project manager), OpenShot was designed to be an easy-to-use yet powerful video editor that anyone can use, regardless of experience level. The project is funded through community donations and sponsorships, with Jonathan Thomas working on it full-time since 2013. Key features: timeline-based editing: a multi-track timeline where users arrange video clips, audio clips, and images. Clips can be trimmed, split, sliced, and rearranged via drag-and-drop. Unlimited tracks and layers allow complex compositions. Keyframe animation: animate clip properties (position, scale, rotation, alpha, hue, etc.) over time using keyframes. This enables effects like zoom-and-pan, picture-in-picture, and animated text. Title templates: create animated and static titles using SVG templates. Integrates with Blender and Inkscape for advanced title creation. 3D titles: generate animated 3D text titles with customizable fonts, colors, and lighting using an integrated Blender backend. Video effects: over 400 transitions (crossfade, wipe, slide, push) and visual effects (chroma key, color correction, brightness, contrast, saturation, blur, sharpen, old film, pixelate). Audio mixing: multi-track audio with waveforms, volume envelopes, and fade in/out. Support for audio effects. Video transitions: drag-and-drop transitions between clips. Export presets: optimized export presets for YouTube, Vimeo, Flickr, Facebook, and various devices (iPhone, Android, DVD, Blu-ray). Video codecs: powered by FFmpeg, supporting H.264, H.265, VP8, VP9, and many container formats. Resolution: supports 4K and higher resolutions. Python/C++ (libopenshot). GPL-3.0.
