Orama

Orama is a search platform built specifically for AI coding agents, combining a hosted search service with a command-line interface that requires no registration or dashboard configuration. The platform is designed around a simple workflow: point the CLI at a local data file such as a CSV of product catalogs or task lists, and it creates a fully configured, hosted search index with filters and facets that behave the way ecommerce applications expect. The index ID serves as the only credential, meaning no API key is ever shipped in the client bundle, eliminating a common security vulnerability in frontend search implementations. The CLI supports a single-file binary installation via curl for macOS and Linux, with no runtime dependencies. Commands include index creation with environment flags, JSON output mode for programmatic consumption, and agent-optimized flags with locked payload shapes and frozen exit codes that ensure deterministic behavior when invoked by automated tools. Full-text and vector search are combined in a single response, enabling hybrid search without separate endpoints or embedding management. The platform is built on OramaCore, an open-source search engine with over 10,000 GitHub stars and processing more than 5 million monthly queries across thousands of open-source projects. Integration with AI coding agents like Claude Code and Codex is achieved through dedicated agent prompts and setup recipes that instruct the agent to install, configure, and query the index. The search endpoint can also be wired directly into existing applications with framework-specific search UI components.
