PaintPlanner is a specialized mobile application designed to provide accurate paint quantity estimates for interior and exterior painting projects. The app leverages LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) scanning technology available on supported iOS devices to create a precise three-dimensional model of any room or surface area. Unlike traditional paint calculators that require manual measurements of wall length, height, and the subtraction of windows and doors, PaintPlanner automates the entire process. Users simply point their device’s camera and scan the room with LiDAR, which instantly captures the dimensions of walls, ceilings, floors, and any openings such as windows, doors, or built-in cabinets. The app then processes this spatial data to calculate the exact square footage of paintable surfaces. It automatically deducts the area of doors and windows to avoid overestimation of paint needed. The user can adjust key parameters such as the number of coats (for example, one, two, or three coats depending on color change or surface condition) and the paint coverage rate per gallon (typically 350–400 square feet per gallon, which can be customized based on the specific paint brand and texture). PaintPlanner also allows users to save multiple estimates for different rooms or projects, rename them, and revisit them later. This is useful for planning a whole house repaint or tracking multiple quotes from different contractors. The app displays the estimated total paint volume in gallons or liters, and optionally provides a cost estimate if the user inputs the price per unit of paint.
