About this website
PeaZip is a free and open-source file archiver and archive manager that supports over 200 archive formats. Created in 2006 by Giorgio Tani and developed in Free Pascal (Lazarus IDE), PeaZip is designed as a cross-platform alternative to commercial archivers like WinRAR and WinZip, offering powerful features without licensing fees. The project is maintained independently by its creator. Key features: format support: create archives in 7Z, ARC, Brotli, BZip2, GZip, PAQ, PEA, TAR, WIM, XZ, ZPAQ, and ZIP formats. Extract from over 200 formats including RAR5, ACE, CAB, DEB, DMG, ISO, LHA, LZH, NSIS, RPM, UDF, VHD, XAR, and many more. Unlike many free tools, this application includes a full RAR extraction engine. Compression: strong compression with PAQ, PEA, and ZPAQ algorithms that can achieve better ratios than ZIP or 7Z at the cost of speed. Advanced options include dictionary size, word size, solid archive mode, and multiple compression algorithms. Encryption: AES-256 encryption for 7Z and ZIP archives. Two-factor authentication with keyfile and password for PEA format. Secure deletion: wipe files and free disk space using multiple overwrite passes (from simple zero-fill to military-grade Gutmann method) to prevent recovery. File splitting: split large archives into multiple volumes for easier transfer on removable media. File hashing: compute and verify checksums (CRC32, CRC64, MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-512, SHA-3, Whirlpool, Ripemd) for data integrity verification. Find duplicates: scan directories for duplicate files based on checksums. Convert archives: extract and re-compress between formats. Batch mode: process multiple files and archives. Cross-platform: Windows (32/64-bit), Linux (x86/ARM), and Haiku. Free Pascal/Lazarus. LGPL-3.0.
