Percy

Percy is an all-in-one visual review and regression testing platform, acquired by BrowserStack in 2020 and integrated into the broader BrowserStack testing ecosystem. The platform automates manual quality assurance by capturing screenshots of web and mobile application pages across multiple browsers, devices, and viewport sizes, then comparing each screenshot against a known baseline using pixel-level diffing algorithms that detect visual changes including layout shifts, color modifications, font rendering differences, missing images, and responsive breakpoints. The Visual Scanner feature enables zero-code visual monitoring by scanning URLs without any SDK installation, detecting visual regressions across browsers and devices simply by providing website URLs. Percy integrates into existing development workflows through CI/CD pipelines with officially supported SDKs for Capybara and Ruby on Rails, WebDriverIO, Ember, Storybook with React, Vue, and Angular, Appium for mobile applications, Playwright, Cypress, and Puppeteer. The platform supports component-level visual testing through Storybook integration, enabling design system teams to test individual UI components in isolation. When visual changes are detected, Percy generates diff overlays highlighting changed pixels, which reviewers can approve or request changes on through a collaborative review interface with threaded comments, assignment, and status tracking. Customers include Dollar Shave Club where it prevents frontend regressions during production deployment, Canva for sweeping UI changes across component libraries, Basecamp for cross-browser visual verification, and TradeGecko for component-level change tracking. The App Percy extension adds native mobile application visual testing for iOS and Android.
