About this website

Remmina is a free and open-source remote desktop client designed primarily for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems. Originally developed by Vic Lee and later maintained by Antenore Gatta and the Remmina Team, the project is part of the FreeDesktop.org ecosystem. Written in C using the GTK toolkit, Remmina has become the de facto remote desktop client for Linux desktop environments. Key features: multi-protocol support: Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) for connecting to Windows machines and Windows Terminal Servers, Virtual Network Computing (VNC) for cross-platform remote control, X2Go for secure remote Linux sessions, SPICE for virtual machine console access, NX (NoMachine) for high-performance remote sessions, SSH for terminal access, and WWW (HTTP/HTTPS) for web-based access. GTK-based interface: tabbed interface for managing multiple connections simultaneously. Each connection opens in its own tab with quick switching. Full-screen mode with a toolbar overlay for quick access to settings and tools. Connection profiles: save detailed connection profiles with server address, port, username, password (stored in the system keyring), color depth, resolution, keyboard layout, and protocol-specific settings. Organize profiles into groups. Quick connect: connect to a server without saving a profile. Smart scaling: scale the remote desktop to fit the window, useful for high-DPI displays. Dynamic resolution update (RDP): the remote desktop automatically resizes to match the local window. File transfer: drag-and-drop file sharing in RDP sessions. SSH tunnel: connect to remote servers through an SSH tunnel for added security. Remote framebuffer (RFB) encoding options for VNC. Multi-monitor: RDP multi-monitor support. Clipboard sharing between local and remote. Audio redirection: play remote audio locally. Certificate management. Screenshot capture. GTK plugin architecture for adding new protocols. C/GTK. GPL-2.0+.
