About this website
WezTerm is a GPU-accelerated cross-platform terminal emulator and multiplexer written in Rust that combines exceptional rendering performance with deep programmability. Created by Wez Furlong and boasting over 26,000 GitHub stars, it leverages the system GPU through Metal on macOS, Vulkan on Linux, and DirectX on Windows to deliver buttery-smooth text rendering at 120 plus frames per second even with massive scrollback buffers. Configuration is handled entirely through Lua scripting, providing unlimited flexibility to define key bindings, color schemes, font fallbacks, window layouts, and dynamic tab titles. Unlike terminal emulators that rely on JSON or YAML configuration, the Lua-based approach enables conditional logic, computed values, and event-driven behavior for truly personalized workflows. The built-in multiplexer supports an arbitrary number of panes, tabs, windows, and workspaces, with the ability to connect to remote multiplexer sessions over SSH for persistent workspace management across machines. Feature highlights include support for modern terminal protocols including Kitty graphics, iTerm2 inline images, and Sixel; ligature and emoji rendering with variable font axes; built-in SSH client with SFTP integration; serial port connectivity; and native tabs on macOS. The terminal supports 256-color, truecolor, and Unicode 15.0 including composite characters. Built-in search, copy mode, and quick select with regex patterns streamline text navigation. Pre-built binaries are available for macOS Intel and ARM, Linux x86 and ARM, Windows, and FreeBSD, with package manager distributions for Homebrew, Scoop, Winget, and various Linux distributions.
