About this website
The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute, known as AHRI, is the trade association representing manufacturers of residential and commercial air conditioning, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and water heating equipment in North America, headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. Founded in 1903, the institute represents over three hundred member companies that produce more than ninety percent of the residential and commercial air conditioning and refrigeration equipment manufactured and sold in the United States and Canada. AHRI is best known for its equipment certification programs, which test and certify that HVACR products perform according to manufacturers' published ratings for cooling capacity, heating efficiency, and energy consumption. The AHRI Directory of Certified Product Performance is the industry-standard reference used by consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, and building owners to verify equipment specifications before purchase. The institute also develops industry technical standards in partnership with the American National Standards Institute covering equipment safety, performance rating methods, and installation procedures, and advocates on federal energy efficiency regulations issued by the Department of Energy and refrigerant phase-down policies under the Environmental Protection Agency.
