About this website
Airbyte is an open-source data integration platform that simplifies ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) workflows by providing over 350 pre-built connectors for moving data from sources (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Salesforce, Stripe, Google Analytics, Shopify, Kafka, APIs) to destinations (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, PostgreSQL, S3, local JSON/CSV). Founded in 2020 by Michel Tricot and John Lafleur, Airbyte was designed to solve the fragmentation and maintenance burden of custom data pipelines. Unlike proprietary ETL tools, Airbyte connectors are open-source Docker containers that can be forked, customized, and self-hosted without vendor lock-in. Key features include: declarative connector framework (CDK - Connector Development Kit) for building new connectors in Python or YAML within hours, the Connector Builder UI for creating API connectors without coding, connector versioning and breaking change management, incremental sync (CDC for databases, cursor-based for APIs), schema normalization (transforming raw JSON into typed columns), data transformation via dbt integration, orchestration via Temporal.io for resilient job execution, self-hosted deployment (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform) or Airbyte Cloud (managed), Airbyte Terraform Provider for infrastructure-as-code, workspace isolation and RBAC, and data residency control. As of 2026, Airbyte has over 16,700 stars and is used by companies including Mercari, Ramp, Unilever, and BlackRock.
