About this website

SearXNG is a free, privacy-respecting metasearch engine that aggregates results from over 70 different search engines and online services without tracking users, profiling their behavior, or collecting personal data. It is a community-maintained fork of the original Searx project, created in 2021 after the original project became inactive. Unlike mainstream search engines like Google, Bing, or DuckDuckGo, which build detailed user profiles based on search history, IP addresses, cookies, and browser fingerprints, SearXNG does not store any user data: no IP addresses are logged, no cookies are set (except a single preference cookie if the user customizes settings), no search queries are recorded, and no user tracking or analytics scripts are embedded. SearXNG works by proxying search queries to multiple search engines simultaneously (including Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Wikipedia, GitHub, Reddit, Stack Overflow, and dozens of others), aggregating the results, removing tracking parameters from result URLs, and presenting them in a clean, ad-free interface. Users can select which engines to query, customize the appearance, and filter results by category (general, images, videos, news, music, files, social media, IT, science, and more). The platform can be self-hosted (anyone can run their own instance with Docker or Python), or accessed through one of the hundreds of community-operated public instances. SearXNG also provides a JSON API for programmatic access and supports both Tor hidden services and proxy-based result loading for enhanced privacy. As of 2026, SearXNG has over 15,000 stars.
