About this website
The American Chemistry Council, abbreviated ACC, is the leading trade association representing the chemical manufacturing industry in the United States, headquartered in Washington. Founded in 1872 as the American Chemical Society's manufacturing section and later reorganized as an independent organization, ACC represents over one hundred ninety member companies ranging from the largest integrated chemical producers like Dow, DuPont, ExxonMobil Chemical, BASF Corporation, and LyondellBasell to specialized and emerging chemistry companies. Member companies produce the chemicals that serve as building blocks for products across virtually every manufacturing sector including pharmaceuticals, agriculture, construction materials, automotive components, electronics, packaging, textiles, and consumer goods. The council is best known for its Responsible Care initiative, a mandatory environmental, health, safety, and security performance program that all member companies must implement and report against annually. Policy advocacy priorities include chemical safety regulations under the Toxic Substances Control Act as amended by the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act, chemical facility security standards, energy policy affecting natural gas feedstock costs, and trade policy affecting chemical imports and exports that represent a major category of American international merchandise trade.
