AskCodi Desktop is a local-first AI-powered engineering tool that simulates a full software development team on a user's machine. The core concept revolves around an autonomous "CTO agent" that orchestrates a swarm of specialized AI engineers—each focusing on distinct areas such as backend development, frontend construction, testing, and security. These agents work in parallel across isolated git worktrees, meaning they can independently develop, test, and review code without interfering with each other's environments. The entire process runs locally, ensuring data privacy and low latency, while supporting over 50 different AI language models, including popular ones like Claude, GPT, and open-source alternatives. The tool enables users to describe a project brief or a feature requirement in natural language. The CTO agent then breaks down the task, delegates specific modules to the appropriate specialist agents, and monitors their progress. Each agent writes code, runs tests, and generates reviews. The final output—merged code with documentation and test cases—is automatically reviewed before being presented to the user. This mimics a real-world agile development workflow where multiple engineers collaborate, but without the overhead of human team coordination. AskCodi Desktop integrates directly with the user's local development environment. It supports shell access and the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing the AI agents to interact with the operating system, run commands, manipulate files, and use external tools. This makes it possible for the agents to install dependencies, run linters, execute tests, and even deploy code snippets in a sandboxed manner.
