About this website
AutoDraw is a free, web-based drawing tool developed by Google Creative Lab that leverages machine learning to assist users in creating digital artwork quickly and intuitively. The primary function of AutoDraw is to transform rough sketches or doodles into polished, recognizable icons and illustrations. When a user starts drawing on the blank canvas with the provided drawing tools—such as a pen, shape tool, text tool, or color picker—the system analyzes the shape in real time and offers a set of suggested, professionally designed vector graphics that closely match the user’s input. This feature is especially useful for people who lack artistic skills or want to produce clean, consistent visuals without manual tracing or advanced design software. The interface is minimal and straightforward: a large drawing area occupies the center, with a toolbar on the left side containing options for pen stroke thickness, color selection, an eraser, a fill color tool, and a shape insertion tool (circles, squares, lines, etc.). On the top of the page, there is a “Start Drawing” button, and below the canvas, users can access a “Fast Draw” mode where the tool automatically guesses the intended object as the user scribbles. For example, drawing a rough circle with a line attached may trigger suggestions like a balloon, a wheel, or a sun. Users can click on any suggestion to replace their sketch with that graphic. Beyond the real-time matching, AutoDraw includes a collection of pre-made clip art and icons organized by categories (e.g., animals, food, transportation, symbols). Users can manually browse and insert these graphics into their canvas, then resize, move, or rotate them freely.
