DeckAssistant is a software plugin designed exclusively for the Elgato Stream Deck, a programmable hardware keypad used by streamers, content creators, and professionals to trigger shortcuts, actions, and workflows. The plugin integrates artificial intelligence directly into the physical buttons of the Stream Deck, allowing users to execute AI-powered tasks with a single press, without switching to a browser or desktop application. When a user configures a button to activate DeckAssistant, the plugin can perform two primary operations. First, it can process any text that the user has currently selected on their computer screen. For example, if a writer selects a paragraph in a document and presses a Stream Deck key, the AI can rewrite, summarize, translate, or expand that text according to a predefined instruction. This works across any application—text editors, browsers, code editors, or even chat windows—because the plugin intercepts the selected text from the system clipboard. Second, the plugin can open a freeform prompt window where the user types or speaks a question, and the AI returns a response directly on the Stream Deck’s display or within an accompanying desktop chat interface. The underlying AI is comparable to ChatGPT but enhanced with additional features tailored for productivity. The plugin includes a web-based chat interface that complements the physical button actions.
