About this website

FileZilla is a free and open-source, cross-platform FTP application consisting of a client (FileZilla Client) and a server (FileZilla Server). Created in 2001 by Tim Kosse, the project is developed and maintained by a small team based in Germany. FileZilla has become one of the most popular FTP clients in the world, with over 100 million downloads. Key features of the client: multi-protocol support: connects to FTP, FTPS (FTP over SSL/TLS), and SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol). FTPS provides explicit and implicit SSL/TLS encryption. SFTP uses SSH for secure file transfer. The protocol can be auto-detected based on the server response. Site Manager: save and organize connection profiles with host, port, username, password, and protocol settings. Folders and categories for managing multiple sites. Quickconnect bar: enter host, username, password, and port for instant connections without saving. Dual-pane interface: local files on the left, remote files on the right. Drag-and-drop file transfers between panes. Directory comparison: compare local and remote directories by file size or modification time, highlighting differences. Filename filters: include or exclude files based on wildcard patterns. Transfer queue: manage multiple simultaneous transfers with configurable concurrent connections (up to 10 per server). Failed transfers are automatically retried. Resume support: resume interrupted transfers (for servers that support it). Bookmarks: save frequently accessed local and remote directories. Remote file editing: edit remote files in the local editor, with automatic upload on save. Tabbed browsing: multiple connections in separate tabs. Network configuration wizard: configure firewall and router settings (passive mode, port ranges). Master password: encrypt stored passwords using AES-256. Drag-and-drop from/to desktop. Cross-platform: Windows, macOS, Linux. C++ (wxWidgets). GPL-2.0.
