About this website

Infura is a blockchain infrastructure platform that provides developers with API access to Ethereum, IPFS, and other decentralized networks without the need to run and maintain their own full nodes. Originally developed within ConsenSys in 2016 to solve the operational challenge of reliably connecting MetaMask (the popular Ethereum browser wallet) to the Ethereum network, Infura has grown into the most widely-used blockchain API provider in the Web3 ecosystem, processing billions of API requests daily for applications including MetaMask, Uniswap, OpenSea, MakerDAO, Compound, and thousands of other dApps and services. The core value proposition of Infura is eliminating the operational burden of running blockchain nodes: instead of spending days setting up and maintaining a geth or erigon node with sufficient disk space and bandwidth, developers can simply use the Infura API endpoint and start building immediately. Key features include: JSON-RPC API access to Ethereum mainnet and testnets (Sepolia, Holesky), Layer 2 networks (Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Polygon, Linea), and other EVM-compatible chains, IPFS pinning and storage APIs for decentralized file storage, WebSocket endpoints for real-time event subscriptions and pending transaction monitoring, an archive node API for querying historical blockchain state at any block height, high-availability infrastructure with geographic distribution and automatic failover, rate limiting and usage analytics via the Infura dashboard, API key management and team collaboration features, and support for both HTTP and WebSocket protocols. As of 2026, Infura serves over 500,000 registered developers and is a subsidiary of ConsenSys Software Inc.
