Keystatic

Keystatic is a Git-based content management system designed to make Markdown, MDX, JSON, and YAML files in a codebase editable by non-technical content teams through an intuitive visual admin interface. Developed by Thinkmill, an Australian digital product consultancy, the tool bridges the gap between developer-controlled Git workflows and content editor usability without requiring a separate database or backend service. The platform supports two-way editing, meaning changes made in the admin user interface are written directly to source files, and changes made to files in the codebase are reflected in the admin interface. Content is modeled using TypeScript-typed schemas that define collections for repeatable content like blog posts and products, and singletons for one-off content like site configuration and navigation. The system provides a Reader API for programmatic content retrieval in frameworks including Next.js, Astro, and Remix. Keystatic integrates natively with GitHub for content management directly from the browser, with Keystatic Cloud extending the platform with simplified GitHub OAuth authentication, automatic image optimization, and media hosting. Markdoc and MDX rendering support enables rich content with custom React components. The project is fully open source and backed by Thinkmill, a company employing team members from over thirty countries with offices across Australia.
