About this website
JamesDSP for Linux (JDSP4Linux) is a free and open-source audio effect processor that provides system-wide digital signal processing (DSP) for Linux audio systems, featuring a powerful custom DSP engine originally developed for Android. Created by the JamesDSP project (originally developed by James Fung for Android as JamesDSPManager) and ported to Linux by timetide, JDSP4Linux brings professional-grade audio effects to Linux desktops with a focus on sound quality and flexibility. Key features: system-wide audio processing: processes all audio output from the system, regardless of the application, by inserting itself as an audio filter between the application and the audio server (PulseAudio or PipeWire). Audio engine: uses a custom C-based DSP engine that processes audio in real-time with low latency. The engine supports both PulseAudio (via PulseAudio's module-ladspa-sink and module-jackdbus-detect) and PipeWire (via native PipeWire filter) backends. Audio effects: bass boost (configurable frequency and gain), reverberation (Enhanced Steam Audio Reverb, a custom reverb algorithm with room size, width, damping, and wet/dry controls), vacuum tube modeling (tube amplifier simulation with overdrive and character controls), graphic equalizer (10-band and 15-band EQ with frequency and Q controls), convolver (impulse response convolution using WAV files for hardware measurement correction and headphone profiles), Live programmable DSP (script-based DSP programming using a custom scripting language for advanced audio processing), and sound positioning (spatial audio enhancement). Crossfeed: headphone crossfeed for natural stereo imaging. Compressor and limiter. Graphic EQ presets: community presets for popular headphones (Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, Audio-Technica, AKG, Sony, Focal). Theme support: light and dark themes with customizable colors. System tray integration. Cross-platform: Linux (primary), with Android and Windows versions available separately. GPL-3.0.
