Krita Digital Painting Application

Krita is a free and open-source professional digital painting application developed by the KDE community, available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android without registration, advertisements, trial periods, or commercial restrictions. The current version 5.3.2.1 is released under the GNU GPL license, ensuring the software remains free and open source permanently as a community-owned project with contributions from volunteers worldwide and funding through the Krita Development Fund. The application provides a comprehensive set of brush engines including the default Pixel Brush, Brush Smudge for smudging and smearing, Color Smudge for wet paint effects, Sketch for chaotic textured strokes, Particle for spraying particles, Hairy for bristle-based strokes, Chalk, Marker, Spray, and Dynamik, each with extensive parameters for size, opacity, flow, spacing, rotation, scattering, and texture mapping with support for pressure-sensitive graphics tablets from Wacom, Huion, XP-Pen, and other manufacturers. The animation feature set provides a full timeline with onion skinning, frame-by-frame raster animation, vector layers with transformation mask animation, audio importing for lip-sync, and export to animated GIF, PNG sequences, and video formats through FFmpeg integration. Additional capabilities include full-color management with LCMS2 and ICC profiles, HDR painting with 32-bit floating point color depth on supported displays, Python scripting API for automation and custom tools, and PSD import and export with layer preservation for interoperability with Photoshop workflows.
