Lightdash Analytics Platform

Lightdash is an open-source business intelligence platform built natively on dbt that treats analytics definitions as version-controlled code rather than configuration locked in a proprietary tool. The platform reads dbt model files, metrics definitions, and tests directly from the dbt project, creating a semantic layer where metrics and dimensions inherit from the dbt models that define the underlying data transformations. This dbt-native architecture means that every metric in Lightdash traces back to the SQL in the dbt model that produces it, and changes to the dbt project propagate automatically to dashboards and charts through the Git integration, with CI checks that validate analytics changes before they reach production. Dashboards and charts are defined as code files that can be reviewed, versioned, and deployed through the same Git workflows used for application code, enabling code review on metric definitions and rollback of analytics changes through standard Git operations. The AI assistant translates natural language questions into queries against the dbt semantic model, returning answers as visualizations without requiring the question asker to understand SQL or the underlying data warehouse schema. Data apps let teams build interactive, embeddable analytics interfaces that go beyond static dashboards, with parameters, filters, and multi-page navigation powered by the semantic layer. The open-source edition can be self-hosted with unlimited users at no cost, while the cloud and enterprise editions add SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA compliance, single sign-on, role-based access control, and priority support. The platform serves customers including Hypebeast, JustWatch, Collectors, and Tatango, with community members across Slack and GitHub contributing to the codebase and documentation.
