About this website
LMMS (Linux Multimedia Studio) is a free and open-source digital audio workstation designed for music production, beat making, and sound synthesis, providing a user-friendly alternative to FL Studio and Ableton Live. Originally created by Tobias Doerffel in 2004, LMMS is popular among bedroom producers and electronic music creators. Key features include: Song Editor (main timeline interface for arranging patterns, samples, instrument tracks, and automation across the project), Beat and Bassline Editor (pattern-based step sequencer for creating rhythmic patterns and basslines with configurable steps and swing), Piano Roll (note editor for melodic content with velocity, panning, pitch bend, and controller automation per note), instrument plugins (built-in synthesizers including TripleOscillator, Kicker for kick drum synthesis, Synth1, Vibedstrings, and OpulenZ for FM synthesis), sample instruments (AudioFileProcessor for WAV and OGG samples, SF2 player for SoundFont playback), native effects (bitcrusher, EQ, delay, reverb, chorus, compressor, distortion, flanger, and dual filter), VST support (load Windows VST plugins via VeSTige on all platforms including Linux through Wine), ZynAddSubFX (built-in powerful additive synthesizer with pad synthesizer and presets), MIDI support (MIDI input from keyboards and controllers, MIDI output to external hardware, MIDI file import and export), automation (automate volume, pan, pitch, cutoff, and custom plugin parameters over time), and cross-platform (Windows, macOS, and Linux).
