About this website
A fast, simple, and visually polished static site generator specifically designed for building project documentation from Markdown source files. Unlike general-purpose static generators, it focuses exclusively on the documentation use case, with a single YAML configuration file controlling site structure, theme, plugins, and Markdown extensions. The built-in development server provides live reloading as you edit, instantly reflecting changes across the browser without manual refresh. Multiple themes are available out of the box, including a clean default theme and a Read the Docs-inspired theme with navigation sidebars, search functionality, and version selection. A rich ecosystem of third-party themes extends capabilities further, including Material for a modern, customizable design with dark mode, versioning, internationalization, and social cards. The plugin architecture allows extending core functionality with features like auto-generated section navigation, PDF export, API documentation rendering from source code, macro templates using Jinja2, and mermaid diagram rendering. Markdown extensions support admonition blocks for callout notes and warnings, code annotation, tabbed content, mathematical formula rendering with MathJax, and enhanced table of contents generation. The tool is written in Python and installed via pip, requiring no Node.js or complex build dependencies. Documentation sites can be deployed to any static host including GitHub Pages, Netlify, or Cloudflare Pages, with the generated output being pure HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with no server-side requirements.
