National Retail Federation

The National Retail Federation, known by its abbreviation NRF, is the world's largest retail trade association, headquartered in Washington with its main operations in New York. Founded in 1911, the organization represents retailers of all formats including department stores, specialty boutiques, discount chains, grocery supermarkets, online marketplaces, and direct-to-consumer brands, as well as the industry partners that supply goods and services to the retail sector. The NRF is best known for producing Retail's Big Show, the annual convention held each January at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City, which draws over forty thousand retail industry professionals and features hundreds of exhibitors showcasing retail technology, point-of-sale systems, e-commerce platforms, supply chain solutions, and store operations tools. The association publishes the Retail Horizon report on consumer trends, monthly retail sales tracking data, and holiday season spending forecasts that are widely cited in financial media. Policy advocacy focuses on issues including interchange fees for credit card transactions, sales tax collection for online purchases, labor scheduling regulations, and trade policy affecting imported consumer goods.
