About this website

Novel is a web-based rich text editor that replicates the visual and interactive experience of Notion, specifically designed for developers and content creators who need a seamless WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editing environment. The editor is built on top of Tiptap, a headless editor framework for Vue and React, and integrates with OpenAI’s language models and Vercel’s AI SDK to provide intelligent writing assistance. Its primary function is to allow users to compose and format documents with a clean, block-based interface, similar to popular note-taking and documentation tools. The core feature of Novel is AI-powered autocompletion. Users can trigger this by typing two plus signs (++) in the editor, or by selecting the autocomplete option from the slash command menu. The AI generates context-aware text suggestions in real time, helping writers complete sentences, expand ideas, or rephrase content without leaving the editor. This makes it particularly useful for drafting blog posts, technical documentation, or any long-form writing where fluency is important. The AI assistance is not limited to simple text completion; it can also generate more complex structures like lists, headings, and code blocks based on the surrounding content. In addition to AI autocompletion, Novel offers a rich set of formatting and media tools accessible through two main menus: a slash menu (triggered by typing “/”) and a bubble menu (appears when text is selected). The slash menu provides quick access to insert headings, bullet lists, numbered lists, blockquotes, code blocks, horizontal rules, and more. The bubble menu offers inline formatting options such as bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, and link insertion. Both menus are designed to be keyboard-friendly and minimal, red
