OpenProject is a free and open-source web-based project management software for project planning, task tracking, and team collaboration. Forked from Redmine in 2012 and developed by the OpenProject Foundation based in Berlin, Germany (co-founded by Birthe Lindenthal and Jens Raths), it supports both traditional and agile methodologies. Key features: work package management (tasks, bugs, features, milestones) with custom types, attributes, and status transitions. Interactive Gantt charts with task dependencies (finish-to-start, start-to-start, etc.), critical path highlighting, and progress tracking. Agile boards (Scrum and Kanban) with customizable columns, swimlanes, story points, and WIP limits. Backlogs and sprints for Scrum teams with burndown charts and velocity tracking.
