About this website

Oracle VirtualBox is a free and open-source hosted hypervisor for x86 and x86-64 virtualization, originally developed by InnoTek (a German company founded by Alexander Gavrichenkov) in 2003, acquired by Sun Microsystems in 2008, and now maintained by Oracle Corporation. With millions of downloads and widespread use in development, testing, and education, VirtualBox is one of the most popular desktop virtualization solutions. Key features include: full hardware virtualization support (using Intel VT-x and AMD-V hardware acceleration, with nested paging for improved performance), guest additions (providing enhanced features inside guest operating systems including seamless mouse integration, shared clipboard, drag and drop file transfer, shared folders between host and guest, automatic guest display resizing, and accelerated 3D graphics via a custom graphics driver), snapshot management (creating and restoring point-in-time snapshots of VM state, enabling rollback to previous configurations), VM cloning (full and linked clones for creating copies of virtual machines), multiple display support (up to 16 virtual screens per VM), USB device passthrough (attaching physical USB devices to guest VMs via USB 1.1, 2.0, and 3.0 controllers with the VirtualBox Extension Pack), audio input and output support, serial port emulation, EFI firmware support (in addition to traditional BIOS), virtual disk formats (VDI for VirtualBox native, VMDK for VMware compatibility, VHD for Microsoft compatibility, and HDD for Parallels), virtual networking modes (NAT, bridged, internal, host-only, and generic for flexible network isolation), VM groups and bulk operations, remote display via VRDP (VirtualBox Remote Display Protocol), headless mode (running VMs without a GUI window), command-line management via VBoxManage, and cross-platform support (Windows, macOS, Linux, and Solaris hosts supporting Windows, Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, and other guest OSes).
