About this website

PATENTSCOPE is a patent search service provided by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). It allows users to search through a vast collection of patent documents from around the world. The database currently contains over 128.0 million patent documents, including 5.4 million published international patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). This makes it one of the largest freely accessible patent databases globally. The system is designed for patent examiners, researchers, legal professionals, inventors, and anyone interested in patent information. Users can perform searches using a variety of criteria. The simple search interface offers multiple field options: Front Page, Any Field, Full Text, Claims, All Numbers and IDs, All Classifications, All Names, and Publication Date. Each field targets specific parts of a patent document. For example, searching by "Front Page" retrieves documents based on metadata such as title, abstract, and bibliographic data. "Any Field" scans all textual content, while "Full Text" searches the entire document body. "Claims" focuses on the legal claims that define the scope of protection. "All Numbers and IDs" covers application numbers, publication numbers, priority numbers, and other identifiers. "All Classifications" includes International Patent Classification (IPC), Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC), and other classification systems. "All Names" searches applicant names, inventor names, and agent names. "Publication Date" allows filtering by exact dates or date ranges. The search results can be refined using Boolean operators, wildcards, and phrase searches. PATENTSCOPE also supports advanced search with complex query syntax, enabling combination of multiple fields with logical operators. Users c
